FAQs
Why sit Competency-based training and assessment (CBTA)?
Instead of taking a practical test at the Restricted and Full stages of your licence, you can choose to have your riding skills assessed by an NZTA approved CBTA assessor.
CBTA is the only way you can reduce the required minimum time during both of the Learner (6 months) and Restricted Motorcycle (18 months) licence stages. You can introduce CBTA training at
any stage of your licencing process.
By using the CBTA process you can sit your Restricted CBTA Assessment at any time after getting your Learner Licence, as long as you are 16 and a half years old or over. You do not have to wait
six months.
You can also reduce the minimum time you have to be on your Restricted Licence by sitting a Full CBTA Assessment, getting the time down from 18 months to only 12 months.

motorcycle dealers in the city that have them available.
Please note that these motorcycles are only available for loan whilst you are under instruction with us and we are unable to loan you a bike for a period longer than the duration of instruction
undertaken.

In this situation, we would invite you to attend one of our two hour, one-on-one New Rider courses. You will not be eligible for a refund for the BHST session you have attended, so we strongly
suggest you seek our advice before attending if you are unsure which course to book. We will do everything we can to help you become and safe and confident rider, resulting in the BHST riding
standard and test, becoming an easy pass situation.
